Annual Wellness Exams

Like humans, pets benefit from visiting their doctor annually. Annual wellness exams help to identify and address medical, behavioral, or environmental issues before they present any serious concerns. Along with annual exams we also recommend regular blood screenings to monitor organ function and general health. This is also a good time to discuss recent advancements in veterinary health and nutrition that may be of benefit to your pet.

New Puppy and Kitten Exams

The decision to bring a new puppy or kitten into your home is momentous and life-changing. Like any new parent, it can be both joyful and stressful at times. Alameda Veterinary Clinic aims to educate and support new owners during this critical time. We begin with scheduling an initial puppy or kitten exam, during which a doctor will provide general care and tips for house training, socialization, behavior training, dry feeding schedules, vaccination protocols as well as answer any questions you may have.

Vaccines

Alameda Veterinary Clinic’s vaccine protocol is that vaccines should be given cautiously and be tailored to the pet’s individual requirements.  We routinely vaccinate for common and preventable diseases.

If you should have any questions about your pets vaccination schedule please feel free to discuss that with the doctor at the time of your exam.

Dental Care

Alameda Veterinary Clinic offers dental cleanings to all pets. Because your pet would go under anesthesia for this procedure it is considered a surgery and would carry the same requirements as general surgery. We believe that routine dental care is an essential part of the overall health of your pet. We currently offer digital dental radiographs which allow diagnosis of dental issues before they become serious issues.

Senior Care

As pets age, medical exams for them become increasingly more important. A number of diseases common to the aging process can be treated more effectively when diagnosed early. We recommend exams for senior pets every six months so that we can detect and treat them as soon as possible.

Common senior dog diseases include cancer, arthritis, and heart disease.
Common senior cat diseases include hyperthyroidism, diabetes, renal disease, cancer, and also heart disease.

Surgery

Alameda Veterinary Clinic offers surgical services to dogs and cats during the week (Monday through Friday). Our general surgery includes spays and neuters, along with many soft tissue surgeries such as growth removals and foreign body removals. We use a CO2 laser for most of our surgeries, which helps reduce healing time and trauma to the skin.

In order to ensure that animals are safe to undergo surgery, all pets are required to have a physical exam done by one of your veterinarians prior to surgery. Pets over the age of six years will need to have a full blood profile done before anesthesia. At that time the veterinarian will discuss upcoming procedures and address any questions you may have.  Please feel free to as the front staff or a technician for an estimate.

“I love the quality of the service here! Super quick and easy and the staff is all so helpful towards all of the questions you have for them! Mark Howard is so caring towards all of the animals that he sees. Liked how they called me after my cat’s spay surgery to let me know that everything went well! I found this clinic to be very reliable and responsive. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a clinic that will take exceptional care of all the fur babies that come through.”
